Day 1: Moshi to Momela Gate to Miriakamba Hut

  • Elevation: 1,200 m to 1,500 m to 2,514 m
  • Distance: 10 km
  • Hiking time: 3-4 hours
  • Habitat: Montane forest

After you are picked up at your hotel, driven to Arusha National Park and are properly checked in for the climb at the park gate; we proceed with the trek through game-filled parkland up to Miriakamba Hut, at 2470m. Along the way there are many spectacular views; including Kilimanjaro from Miriakamba Hut. You will as well walk very close to different varieties of wildlife and some lovely glades.

The trek on this day is not difficult because the terrain is a gentle slope. You will have dinner and spend the night at Miriakamba hut.

Day 2: Miriakamba Hut to Saddle Hut

  • Elevation: 2,514 m to 3,570 m
  • Distance: 5 km
  • Hiking time: 3-4 hours
  • Habitat: Forest to Moorland and heather

The path passes through fine forests and heather to the Saddle Hut (3570m) 3 hours walking it is a steep day as you will gain 1056m. After reaching Saddle hut, an ascent to Little Meru is possible in the afternoon as not only a nice trek but a valuable altitude acclimitization.

This day you will be having a very early dinner then half night sleep at Saddle hut.

Day 3: Saddle Hut to Socialist Peak to Miriakamba Hut

  • Elevation: 3,570 m to 4,566 m to 2,514 m
  • Distance: 15 km
  • Hiking time: 9-10 hours
  • Habitat: Moorland and heath, barren rock and forest

A very early starts the days trek at 2:00am taking us first to a superb viewpoint called Rhino point on the crater rim. From there the route follows an airy ridge which leads up to the summit.

This portion of the trek will take about 5 hours then we descend back to Saddle hut for a short rest and lunch. Afterwards the descent continues to Miriakamba hut where you will have dinner and spend the night.

Day 4: Miriakamba Hut to Momela Gate to Moshi

Elevation: 2,514 m to 1,500 m to 1,200 m Distance: 10 km Hiking time: 2 hours Habitat: Forest

Walk back to the park gate, approximately 2 hours. Reaching back to the gate you will be presented with your certificate. From there our vehicle will return you to your hotel.
